RFID Technology

• RFID technology is what allows a contactless smart card to operate without coming in contact with a reader. The card is equipped with a small RFID tag, which is a small transponder encoded with specific information. A scanning antenna or reader picks up the signal put out by the tag and deciphers the code on the tag. The code is then fed into a contextual database and matched to an entry with relevant information. Depending on the application, appropriate action can be taken.

Security

• RFID smart cards can improve security management in a facility. Cards can be encoded to only provide access certain areas, and issued to authorized individuals. Without solid key-locks that can be picked or digital combination locks that can be hacked, the card access will not be granted to an area. In case of a card being compromised, its code can be removed from the lock's RFID reader and security can be maintained.
